Fatty liver is a condition where there is excessive fat deposits in the liver. Actually fatty liver is not too dangerous, but if there is a continuous and repetitive potentially cause damage and cirrhosis.
The presence of fat in the liver was normal, but if the amount is more than 5% -10% of the weight of the liver, it can cause a disease that can lead to some serious complications.
Cause :
- Overweight (obesity)
- Diabetes (diabetes)
- Chemicals and pharmaceuticals (eg alcohol, corticosteroids, tetracycline, valproic acid, methotrexate, carbon tetraklorid, yellow phosphorus)
- Poor nutrition and low protein diet
- Gestation
- Vitamin A toxicity
- Bypass surgery in the small intestine
- Cystic fibrosis (along with malnutrition)
- Congenital abnormalities in the metabolism of glycogen, galactose, tyrosine or homosistin
- Shortage of medium-chain arildehidrogenase
- Shortage of cholesterol esterase
- Fitanik acid buildup disease (Refsum disease)
- Abetalipoproteinemia
- Reye syndrome
Symptom
Fatty liver usually does not cause symptoms. Sometimes it can cause jaundice (jaundice), nausea, vomiting, pain and tenderness in the abdomen.
Diagnosis
If the physical examination shows an enlarged liver without any other symptoms, it is thought to be a fatty liver. Diagnosis can be confirmed by liver biopsy, in which the hollow needle is used to obtain tissue samples to be examined under a microscope.
Treatment
Excess fat in the liver is actually not a serious problem. The goal of treatment is to remove the cause or treating the underlying disease. When the liver is repeatedly gets the exposure of toxic substances such as alcohol, fatty liver will eventually develop into cirrhosis.
